Application Timings
We strongly recommend applying at least 10–14 days prior to travel.
During peak periods, processing times may increase.
Your visa must be approved before boarding your flight to India.
There is no standard visa on arrival facility for most nationalities.

 
Arrival in India
Upon arrival, immigration authorities may request:

  • Passport with valid visa

  • Printed copy of your e-Visa

  • Proof of onward or return flight

  • Accommodation details

  • Travel itinerary

Please ensure all information on your visa matches your passport exactly.

Children & Infants
All travellers, including infants and children, must have:

  • Their own valid passport

  • Their own individual visa

Children cannot travel on a parent’s visa.

Important Information

  • Overstaying your visa may result in fines or future travel restrictions

  • Entering India on the incorrect visa category may lead to refusal of entry

  • Visa regulations may change without notice

Regional Guidance
United Kingdom
UK passport holders are eligible for the Indian e-Visa (Tourist, Business and Medical categories).

European Union
Most EU nationalities qualify for the Indian e-Visa under similar conditions.

South America
Many South American nationalities are eligible for the Indian e-Visa. Travellers should confirm eligibility prior to applying.
 

Passport Requirements

Before applying for a visa, please ensure your passport:

  • Is valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival in India

  • Has at least 2 blank pages for entry and exit stamps

If your passport does not meet these requirements, it must be renewed before submitting your visa application.

Visa Options for Travel to India

Indian e-Visa (Electronic Visa)
Most travellers from the UK, Europe and many South American countries are eligible to apply for an Indian e-Visa online. This is the most convenient and widely used option.

Key Features:

  • Application completed entirely online

  • No embassy or consulate visit required

  • Visa approval issued electronically (PDF format)

  • Must be printed and presented upon arrival

  • Linked directly to your passport

Available e-Visa Categories

e-Tourist Visa
For tourism, sightseeing and visiting family or friends.
Validity options:

  • 30 days (from date of approval)

  • 1 year (from date of approval)

  • 5 years (from date of approval)

Maximum stay per visit is generally up to 180 days, depending on visa type and nationality.


e-Business Visa
For business meetings, conferences and commercial visits.


e-Medical Visa
For travellers seeking medical treatment in India (attendant visas may also be available).

Regular Visa (Passport Sticker/Stamp)
Some travellers may require a traditional visa issued via an Indian Embassy or Consulate, particularly if:

  • Their nationality is not eligible for an e-Visa

  • They plan to stay longer than permitted under the e-Visa scheme

  • They are travelling for employment, study or long-term purposes

Applications must be submitted via your local Indian Embassy, Consulate or authorised visa centre.

Nepal Visa Guidance

Most travellers from the UK, Europe and South America require a visa to enter Nepal.

Visa on Arrival (Most Nationalities)
Tourist visas are available on arrival at:

  • Kathmandu International Airport

  • Major land border crossings


Visa Options:

  • 15 days

  • 30 days

  • 90 days

Visas can also be obtained in advance via a Nepali Embassy.

Requirements:

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months

  • Completed arrival form (often online prior to arrival)

  • Passport photo

  • Visa fee (payable in major currencies)


Important Notes:

  • Multiple entry visas are available

  • Overstaying results in fines

  • Travel insurance (especially for trekking) is strongly recommended



Nepal is administratively straightforward compared to India. Visa on arrival makes it ideal for short extensions (e.g. post-India Himalayan add-ons).

Travellers from the United Kingdom, Europe and South America must obtain a valid visa before travelling to India, unless they hold an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card or other exempt status.
Without an approved visa, travellers will be denied boarding or refused entry into India
